Project Overview
I was given the prompt to find a social issue or cause that had significance to me that I could raise awareness for with an impactful visual campaign. I chose to raise awareness for the rising healthcare costs in the United States as well as campaigning for universal healthcare. My family is personally impacted with several health issues and I have seen first-hand the expenses from ambulance rides, emergency room visits, and overnight stays at the hospital. This project included a 30x40 inch poster print and a social media GIF. For this project I decided to do two designs as well as print with the Risograph.
Process
I began with general research about healthcare costs in the United States as well as universal healthcare programs in other countries around the world. I took 3 impactful facts about the debilitating healthcare costs on families. I sketched out icons and poster layouts focused on an impactful slogan. I then created 2 poster designs, one showing the feet of a dead body and the second showing emphasis on a medication bottle. Both deal with the reality of healthcare in the United States. I then converted my designs into two colors and used the Risograph to print the dead body poster. I also created a short GIF as a social media deliverable featuring the medicine bottle.
