For this project, we created a brand based on a topic we were interested in. We would then create a full branding system, banners, unique wayfinding and kiosk design, and a 3D environment as the final deliverable. We would design an environment that had branding throughout all surfaces as well as having variety in surfaces. For this project, we created a brand based on a topic we were interested in. I began with research for images to add as a visual imagery for the physical look book and began developing the branding system. Originally I wanted to create a bookshelf or book related logomark but I changed to make the mark more of a mascot built entirely from the typeface. The name Dog Ear came from the act of bending a page in a book acting as a bookmark, dog earring. The mark is a cartoonish dog with a bent ear, like dogearring a page of a book. I used the font’s punctuation marks and letterforms to create multiple faces for the same dog mascot. I also added the bent page reference into the “D” in the logomark for Dog Ear. I used Orbitron, a geometric typeface, as the font throughout the system. I created a pattern and icon set built from the same typeface, mimicking the logomark.
